Verizon Bargaining 2011: Report # 37

The Regional Bargaining Committees met jointly this morning for a presentation from the company on a medical benefits overview and an analysis of the company health care proposal. As usual the company continues to insist on cost sharing and diminishing our health care plans. After the joint session with the company, both committees met with CWA’s Research department to discuss suggestions for a health care counter proposal.

The Mid-Atlantic bargaining committee also met with the company in the afternoon. This meeting focused on a presentation regarding the contracting out of outside plant construction work. We have requested more detailed information regarding the actual percentages of outside plant work performed by contractors. In addition to the outside plant work the union had previously requested similar information on the contracting of bargaining unit work in each line of business. We will have additional discussions regarding all bargaining unit work that has been contracted out.

Both Regional Committees will meet separately next week to prepare counter proposals. Your Regional Committee will meet in Philadelphia next Tuesday to begin this process.
