Verizon Bargaining 2011: Report Dated 08/10/2011
After several days of high level discussions in New York between the Unions and the Company, trying to work through the many outstanding issues still on the bargaining tables, your regional bargaining team met with the Company today in Philadelphia. The Union agreed to meet as long as the Company returned to the table to participate in meaningful discussions to reach a successful agreement. The Company’s bargaining team returned to the table with modifications to only a few of it’s retrogressive demands.
The Union responded to the Company’s proposals by rejecting the most offensive ones, in part, because the Comapany was unable to provide documentation or answers to justify these demands. The Union countered other Company proposals with language that would better serve the interests of its membership.
With service outages mounting and competitors throwing discounted rates at customers all across the footprint, the time for Verizon to reconsider its bargaining tactics is shrinking by the minute. If their plan is to gamble with its FIOS investment and risk losing tens of thousands of current and potential customers, then they are doing an excellent job. Unfortunately, they are putting our livelihoods at risk too!
To all our brothers and sisters from the IBEW and CWA – your actions and enthusiasm on the picket lines are unprecedented. Keep up the fight! And, keep the information flowing. Support for our cause continues to grow nationwide. Organizations across the country realize that our fight today is their fight tomorrow.
