American Airlines: June 4 Bargaining Update
Your CWA/IBT Association Bargaining Committee met again in Dallas on June 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
On Monday, June 1st, the Company passed Article 5, Hours of Service. We had detailed discussions regarding the proposed changes and are getting closer to a tentative agreement on this very important article, which governs our scheduled work hours, breaks, and shift trades. After meeting with the company, we continued to work on responses for the Company including Article 7, Overtime-Reservations.
On Tuesday, June 2nd, the Union presented a proposal on Overtime-Reservations, trying to improve the language on many items contained in this article.
On Wednesday, June 3rd, the Union continued to work on Article 6, Overtime-Airports. We had further discussions with the Company related to Overtime at both LAA and LUS.
On all three days, we had lengthy, heartfelt discussions on the subject of mandatory overtime and what we expect from our employer. We considered how to manage the balance between work and our families. We all need a healthy work/life balance, but how do we get there?
These discussions were helpful in clarifying the goals for both sides, and we are very close to reaching agreement on both Overtime articles in our next bargaining session.
We will meet again in Dallas during the week of June 22.
