3 Organizing Wins in 1 Day
CWA District 2-13 celebrated three organizing victories on February 1, 2024.
Wilmington, DE Wells Fargo employees in the Fairfax branch unanimously voted to unionize at the NLRB election. The organizing team filed a National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) petition for the workers in early January. The new members include five employees and two recent new hires, who will all be represented by CWA Local 13101. Organizing this group was Sr. Campaign Lead Nick Weiner, Megan Halvorson and District Organizing Coordinator (DOC) Terry Garner. This organizing effort is part of CWA’s Wells Fargo United (WFWU) movement, which launched in 2021 and is the only public effort by Wells Fargo employees to organize a union. This is the first unionized Wells Fargo in the state of Delaware and is the third Wells Fargo win in three months, including one Albuquerque, NM and one Daytona Beach, FL. The next Wells Fargo election will be on February 8, 2024 in Virginia Beach, VA.
In another Delaware victory, the Office of State Bank Commissioner (OSBC) workers voted for CWA to be their union representation. Organizing started in October 2023 DOC Terry Garner, who reported:
[O]nce the organizing committee was built they pressed forward to winning an election with the Public Employee Relations Board (PERB). This bargaining unit will consist of Administrative Specialists, Bank Examiners, License Investigators, Senior Accountants, and Tax Auditors. Three positions challenged by the State were Chief Bank Examiners, Investigative Supervisors and Review Examiners. There will be a hearing on March 7, 20023 to determine union eligibility. In total it will be 27 workers in the bargaining unit, with more hires to come expanding this unit. OSBC workers will be a part of CWA Local 13101. Workers stated they are happy to get the election behind them and now start preparing to bargain a first contract.
Finally, Fastmail workers in Pennsylvania voted to unionize at an NLRB election held in Philadelphia, PA. The bargaining unit is made up of sixteen workers at present. DOC Terry Garner and Local 13000 Organizer Joe Smolczynski started organizing efforts in August 2023. Workers at Fastmail will be part of CWA Local 13000.
Congratulations to the organizers, Locals, and our new members!
