CWA District 2-13 Vice President Michael P. Davis Statement to Teamsters Strike Settlement with Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

I am honored to serve as International Vice President for District 2-13 of Communications Workers of America (CWA), proudly representing our District, which includes the striking Mailers, Advertising and CWA NewsGuild bargaining units at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It is my responsibility to ensure that the rights and interests of our hardworking members are protected and upheld.

Recently, I was deeply disheartened by the shocking settlement reached by the Teamsters Local 211/205, a once-respected union. In exchange for severance payments, the Teamsters agreed to dissolve their union at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and end their strike. Their decision to prioritize greed over solidarity with their fellow union members is not only disappointing but also a betrayal of the values that we hold dear in the labor movement. By selling out in secret, the Teamsters have not only damaged their own credibility but have also jeopardized the possibility of a fair settlement for all the unions involved.

It is crucial for us, as labor leaders, to stand together in solidarity and support each other in times of struggle. The actions of the Teamsters serve as a reminder of the importance of transparency, integrity, and unity within the labor movement. We must continue to fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect for all workers, standing strong against greed and betrayal.

We will continue the fight against the Post Gazette's union busting agenda. Together, with the CWA-TNG and President Jon Schleuss, we are determined and united in our cause. Let's stand strong and make our voices heard.
