Delaware 9-1-1 Bill Signed Into Law

CWA Local 13101 reports:

On Friday September 10, 2021 Delaware Governor John Carney signed into law:

HB #79 AAB HA #1 (9/10/21) – AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 29 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO STATE EMPLOYEES' PENSION PLAN. (Sponsors: Rep. Brady & Rep. Lynn & Sen. Walsh). (Volume 83, Chapter 141, Laws of Delaware)

HB #79 allows CWA Local 13101 Delaware State Police 911 dispatchers to retire with a full retirement package at 25 years instead of 30. This also allows those members who wish to stay beyond 25 years to fund their pension for a greater benefit. This was a long process, but we never gave up and our collective efforts gave us these results

This legislative victory follows other recent legislation, SB #8, benefiting our Senior Social Worker Case Managers at DHSS where our union was permitted for the first time to negotiate for compensation. Significant improvements were realized in our Senior Social Worker’s contract.

We are currently working with legislators to protect call center workers in all of our units and to have our 911 dispatchers members reclassified as first responders. In addition CWA 13101 is very actively lobbying to assure access of the highest quality broadband service for EVERY person in the State of Delaware.

Political engagement is a critically important part of representing our members. It can be a slow process with many hurdles along the way, However it’s a worthwhile and rewarding endeavor. The average worker may not have the benefit of a collective voice as unionized workers do, but they too feel the positive results that our union efforts provide. CWA, along with all the unions in the Labor Movement, is the tide that lifts all boats and our political efforts and accomplishments in Delaware are a glowing example of that.

We should all be proud to be such a vital part of keeping the middle class alive and well.

        SOLIDARITY FOREVER !

when we fight, we win !
