Ver.di: Delegation from Germany Supports American Unionists
In the ongoing conflict about the violation of workers rights at T-Mobile USA, a delegation of Deutsche Telekom employees will now visit the United States to get a first hand experience about the situation at T-Mobile USA and to talk to American employees. The group is accompanied by SPD Member of Parliament Klaus Barthel. The talks will start on Monday.
"The violation of workers rights at T-Mobile is a violations of basic human rights.“ says Ado Wilhelm, T-Mobile expert at the United Service Sector Union ver.di. The anti-union campaign at T-Mobile threatens the economic livelihood of workers and their families, harms the image of the company and therefore poses a risk to the economic interests of the Deutsche Telekom Group. “Deutsche Telekom management in Germany is responsible for the ongoing violations of rights by US management and this has to stop.” Ver.di and the colleagues of the US sister union CWA “will not rest until this undemocratic charade is put to an end.” Wilhelm says.
The trip of the delegation to different T-Mobile USA workplaces will start on Sunday in Washington, DC with stops in Nashville, Tennessee and Dallas, Texas, before the group returns to Washington. During this trip, the delegation will have meetings with US union representatives, employees and representatives of the German embassy. On Friday, February 24 there will be a meeting at the union federation AFL CIO with the planned participation of SPD General Secretary Andrea Nahles.
