Verizon Bargaining 2011: Report # 8 - 07/20/2011
Following a morning session analyzing the Company proposal, the CWA/IBEW Union Bargaining team joined with about 100 CWA/IBEW members in a sea of red at the Verizon Headquarters building in Philadelphia for a noontime rally. In a message loud and clear we let the management team know that “WE WON’T GO BACK!”
During the afternoon session, we passed proposals to the Company bargaining team advancing our agenda that this round of bargaining is “All About Good Union Jobs”. The session included a heated discussion over the fact that while we recognize we are all in this together, the only way we can move forward is if Verizon commits to bringing back all of our work from contractors. The only way we can discuss the company’s issues is with a commitment from Verizon to grow bargaining unit jobs. The talks recessed for the day.
Locals need to continue with their strike authorization votes and planning for the Rally at Verizon Headquarters in New York City on Saturday, July 30th. We had 10,000 people at the rally three years ago. We need every member to make a commitment to be there on July 30th this year to show Verizon management that we are dead serious about our demands for jobs.
