Verizon Local 13000 Bargaining Report # 1

Today the Local Bargaining team and the Company met for the first time, where both sides began with their opening statements. The Union addressed the Company by expressing the Union’s concerns over recent events – particularly the 42 technicians laid off last week. “Verizon has been very profitable over the past several years, even spending billions of dollars on mergers and acquisitions. These mergers and acquisitions were very profitable and CWA is seeking fairness for our members during bargaining, including the 42 lay-offs.” The Company initiated bargaining by submitting several proposals which only consisted of give-backs for our members. Proposals included language changes which would allow the Company to increase the use of contractors, erode title integrity and increase tours across the Local, just to name a few. We will analyze the proposals in preparation for our response.

Make sure you are mobilizing every day, practice picketing on Thursdays, and showing this company that we will not sit back and take what they give us.
