Windstream brings broadband wireless service to Philadelphia

Windstream is taking its fixed wireless solution to Philadelphia, adding another market where it will provide complementary network access to its wireline network to business customers.

Leveraging its existing microwave network, the fixed wireless network carries the same Ethernet and Internet-over-Ethernet services Windstream offers on its growing wireline network.

The fixed wireless service delivers a mix of Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) or Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks with Quality of Service (QoS) and delivers scalable bandwidth for speeds up to 1 Gbps that complement its terrestrial network.

While the fixed wireless option won't be right for every customer, it does offer a number of benefits such as reduced installation time and lower investment, and even can be used as a temporary service option. Being able to add markets like Philadelphia to its roster is key for Windstream for two reasons. It gives it another opportunity to further monetize the , while enhancing the reach of its Ethernet network.

In addition to Philadelphia, Windstream offers fixed wireless service in Chicago, New York, Northern New Jersey, Milwaukee and Boston.
