Workers' Memorial Day 2026

On Tuesday, April 28, we observe Workers' Memorial Day -- a day that calls for remembrance and action.

April 28th marks the anniversary of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), which took effect in 1971. Each year on this date, we pause to honor the CWA members and other workers who have lost their lives or suffered injuries on the job. We owe it to them to remember and to do better.

It is a day to renew our commitment to enforcing safety standards that already exist and advocating for stronger protections where needed. You are encouraged to organize or participate in an event in your workplace or community this April 28th. To help you get started, the AFL-CIO has once again made available materials, including posters, stickers, fact sheets, a toolkit, and more, which can be found at https://aflcio.org/about-us/conferences-and-events/workers-memorial-day.

As Mother Jones reminded us: "Mourn for the dead, fight like hell for the living." This is our charge. Let's honor those we've lost by standing up for every worker still on the job.
