CWA-PIW Bargaining Report 07
The Union and Company resumed bargaining 3 days this week after breaking for the holiday. On Wednesday January 11, 2017, the Union opened the bargaining session by submitting to the company an “information request” which both sides engaged in open and frank discussions concerning various issues. The Union presented 3 counter - proposals to the Company, on “discipline, substance abuse, and floating.” The Company presented a number of contract language proposals that would limit representation and alter practices regarding discipline; floating and work reduction processes. There have been no agreements to these proposals but the two sides continue to work towards an agreement.
The Union and the Company met on Thursday, January 12, 2017, with the two sides resuming their discussions from the previous day. The Company presented a proposal to the Union concerning “seniority, layoffs and recall” with the Company wanting to change the meaning and importance of being a senior employee. We will continue to fight for the rights of the very people who have made this Company what is today. The Company did submit 3 counter proposals to the Union and we will be reviewing these proposals before we respond to the Company. Overall this was a productive week of bargaining. We have committed to resume bargaining on February 13 and 14, 2017. We ask that the members stay engaged in the mobilization efforts being conducted at PIW and support your bargaining team.
