Gail Evans Retires

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

It is with personal regret but warm wishes that I announce the retirement of Gail Evans, CWA District 2-13 Administrative Director, effective January 31, 2017.

Gail’s career at Verizon (C&P, Bell Atlantic), as an Operator, Service Representative, Frame Attendant then Central Office Technician which spanned from 1970 through 2003, led her to leadership at CWA.  At CWA Local 2100, from 1976 through 1984, her roles included Job Steward, Area Vice President, Executive Vice President and Treasurer.  She led the Local as President from 1984 through 2004.

Additionally, she served in District 2 as Maryland’s Bargaining Representative from 1992 through 1995.  In 2004 Gail joined the District as a Staff Representative and in 2008 she became the Administrative Director.  She served as Co-Chair for Verizon Bargaining in 2008, 2011, and 2015. In 2013 Gail served as Chair for Frontier Communications Bargaining.

Gail is highly regarded for her extensive knowledge, invaluable expertise, unwavering dedication, and sound leadership.  Her poise under pressure has been a lesson for us all.  Her focused and firm professionalism has gained the admiration and respect of our members, our leadership, our partners, and management alike.  We are indebted and inspired by her vision, hard work and commitment.

It is difficult to imagine District 2-13 without her and although we will miss her we extend our heartfelt congratulations on this well-earned retirement.

To thank Gail for her decades of service to the members of CWA and in order to give the largest number of Local Officers and Staff the opportunity to express their gratitude to her we will honor Gail at a reception this year at our 76th CWA National Convention in August at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA. Further details will be provided as the time draws near.

In Unity,

Edward F. Mooney
International Vice President
CWA District 2-13
