Helping Our West Virginia Brothers and Sisters in Need

West Virginia was hit with a devastating flood on June 23rd, ruining homes and taking lives. CWA District 2-13 has banded together to help rebuild West Virginia’s communities.

Troopers from the West Virginia State Troopers Association – CWA Local 2019 – were out during the heaviest flooding to rescue stranded flood victims. CWA Locals throughout West Virginia, including Locals 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2019, and 2276 joined together to help their communities by cleaning debris, collecting/delivering much needed supplies, and restoring phone service. The Greenbrier, with employees represented by Local 2007, opened its doors as an emergency shelter and a collection site for donations. Another CWA-represented company – AT&T Wireless – set up charging stations in Elkview, WV, and opened its retail stores for victims statewide.

Throughout CWA District 2-13 members helped our brothers and sisters in need. CWA Local 2204’s President Chuck Simpson, after hearing his members ask how they could help, worked with a nearby nursery and Feeding America to collect supplies for West Virginians. On June 28th, Feeding America collected and delivered a shipment of cleaning supplies from Local members, fellow Unions, and neighbors. The Local continues to have collection boxes set up in Roanoke, VA for donations.
